Popular Roughcast Colours Scotland
Homeowners Guide to Roughcast
The most popular roughcast colours and styles in Scotland, like most things, change with the times and the latest trends. What we are seeing in 2022 is that most Homeowners are opting for simple, clean and crisp colours and styles for their homes.
This is often paired with a band of smooth or acrylic render at the bottom or over brickwork or a grey, black or anthracite silicon-based coating painted over the brickwork and window sills.
This contrast really makes the property stand out with a very modern look.
Most Popular Roughcast Colour Chosen by Our Customers 2022
Stone chip colours like Arctic White and Tudor are probably the most popular this year with about 90% of our clients choosing between these two styles. Arctic white Render are small white stone chips, all in one colour, that when applied give a very modern and clean finish. Tudor 80/20 Render is a very popular roughcast colour in Scotland, made of 80% white chips and 20% Grey/Black Chips. It’s a very minimal finish which is just timeless, in 20 years it will still look as stylish as it does today.

Modern vs Traditional Roughcast Colours and Styles in Scotland
You could argue that New Build Homes are the driving force behind exterior trends in Scotland.
For the last 10 years the majority of new build homes in Scotland are built with areas of exposed red or yellow brick with the remainder of the building finished in a plain white or neutral colour roughcast.
This is probably accurate of 99% of the new build homes however its common knowledge that new builds are not as well built as homes used to be in Scotland.
So many homeowners are happy to buy older, more spacious and better built homes. Then spend a little time and money making them look more modern by renewing the Roughcast or external render.
If you are not a fan of traditional roughcast colours like Derby Spar (Grey, Brown & Cream) or Buff (larger mixed coloured stone chips and pebbles) then colours like Arctic White and Tudor are definitely, a sensible option.
Many Homeowners want to leave the old original brown and cream colour roughcast back in the 60’s where they belong along with green bathroom furniture and floral wallpaper. We say, rightly so!
